COLUMBIA Technologies can assist in meeting the key goals of the ARRA LUST program.
- The ARRA program goals include effective use of funds in LUST site cleanups, while clearing the current backlog on LUST sites and creating jobs
- ARRA LUST performance measures include direct sensing site assessments. COLUMBIA is the leader in High Resolution Vertical Profiling for site investigations.
- The majority of the ARRA LUST program funds are supposed to be used by September 30, 2011. COLUMBIA has multiple field crews throughout the U.S. and can complete your site assessments by the ARRA deadline.

According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as of March 2010 approximately 491,000 of the 607,000 underground storage tanks (USTs) nationwide which store petroleum or hazardous waste have been confirmed with UST releases. Over 96,000 UST sites are remaining to be cleaned up.
The EPA’s Leaking Underground Storage Tank (LUST) Trust Fund provides funds for overseeing and enforcing corrective action by the responsible party (owner or operator of the leaking UST) as well as for cleanup at UST sites where the owner or operator is unknown, unwilling, unable to response, or which require emergency action.
In 2009 the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) provided a one-time allocation of $200 million to assess and clean up UST leaks. Almost 90 percent of the funds have been provided to states, territories, and tribes to implement their prevention and cleanup programs. With the ARRA accelerating technological advances in science and health to invest in environmental protection and other infrastructure it is crucial to use fast reliable High Resolution Vertical Profiling technologies combined with COLUMBIA’s real-time data services, SmartData Solutions® to optimize the remediation and closure of recalcitrant leaking UST sites.
Our customizable SmartSites™ portfolio allows the owner or operator, state regulators, and other involved parties quickly and easily compare sites for gas station locations, review custom objectives, survey scores, procedures, descriptions, and view high resolution 2D/3D visualizations. SmartData Solutions® simultaneously collects multiple sources of direct sensing information to provide faster, more accurate, more cost-effective decision making data in a sustainable manner.
Please note that COLUMBIA can work directly with your Agency or with any Environmental Consulting company you may be using to coordinate your LUST assessment and cleanup programs.
